Lucknow: The Institute of Wildlife Science (IWS) at University of Lucknow celebrated Earth Day with a vibrant Green Fair, organized by the Resource Partner of the Environment Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP). The event served as a dynamic platform to promote environmental conservation, sustainable alternatives, and innovative conservation strategies.
The fair was formally inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. J. P. Saini in the presence of Registrar Bhavana Mishra. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Amita Kanojia, Coordinator of EIACP at IWS.
The event witnessed active participation from faculty and staff of the Department of Zoology, the EIACP technical and administrative teams, and both teaching and non-teaching staff of the university. More than 2,500 visitors, primarily students and faculty members, attended the fair, reflecting strong engagement from the academic community.
A major highlight of the Green Fair was the exhibition of 14 eco-friendly stalls set up by NGOs and environmental groups, aligned with the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative. These stalls showcased innovative, sustainable products and practices. Exhibits included millet-based food products promoting nutrition and sustainable agriculture, utility items made from water hyacinth and Bermuda grass, and eco-conscious spiritual products such as havan cups and incense made from recycled temple flowers.

Other attractions featured handmade incense from floral waste, organic compost derived from water hyacinth, and biodegradable lifestyle products including jute bags, folders, bottle carriers, and pouches. An educational stall by EIACP IWS displayed Mission LiFE awareness materials, newsletters, and research publications.
The fair aimed to bridge the gap between environmental awareness and practical sustainable living. By presenting products derived from invasive species like water hyacinth and recycled waste materials, the event effectively demonstrated the principles of a circular economy and their real-world applications.
Held in the Zoology Department corridor, the Green Fair highlighted the growing commitment of Lucknow University’s academic community towards environmental sustainability and the global Earth Day movement.
